Holidays can begin to take a bit of a routine format after a while - a flight, nice weather, seeing some sights, eating some good food and returning home. But it doesn't have to be that way - you could consider a much more flexible approach to a holiday, experiencing lots of different places and landscapes, and enjoying something that you might not normally get on a traditional package holiday: real freedom! That's right, we're talking about taking a campervan trip, where your transport is your home and your possibilities only limited by your imagination - and whether there's a decent road to get you there, of course.
The idea of taking a campervan trip is nothing new but they are becoming more popular for people wanting a bit more adventure from their holiday without it costing the earth. Travelling in what is effectively your home also offers you almost unlimited flexibility - you can move around as much or as little as you like; you could be exploring a big city one day and relaxing in the countryside the next; spend a few days at a beach then head inland for some mountain scenery. Here are a few of the most popular destinations for a campervan holiday:
Europe. The variety of cultures, scenery, languages and food make Europe one of the most varied places to travel around. From the mountains of the Alps and the Pyrenees to the beaches of the Mediterranean and some of the most amazing cities in the world, you could see it all in a campervan.
America. The great American road trip is the stuff of legend and, let's face it, it's such a massive country you need a campervan to see it all properly. You could even go for a classic American design, like the Winnebago or an Airstream vintage caravan, for a real retro experience.
New Zealand. Famed for its stunning, unspoilt (Hobbit-friendly) scenery and laid back attitude, New Zealand is perfectly suited to a campervan adventure. And as it's so far away you might as well make the most of it while you're out there!
Taking a campervan holiday might just whet your appetite for a longer trip in the future and you might consider joining the thousands of people who retire onto the road, permanently chasing the sun or just exploring the world in their motor homes. We'd like to hear about your campervan experiences - have you ever taken a campervan holiday? And would you consider it as a retirement option? Leave us a comment below.

We found as a family that we had got stuck in a rut for our summer holiday and the price kept going up and up. On a motorhome holiday it is much easier to manage your budget and experience a far greater variety of cultures and scenery. You are also not as exposed to the tour operator price hikes during school holidays!
