Derek Webster first broke onto the airwaves as part of a superhero radio serial called Captain Flash, developed with his friends for hospital radio but broadcast daily on BBC Radio Merseyside's popular Billy Butler morning show. That was back in 1978. He soon found himself behind the microphone as a presenter and has been working full time in radio since 1982 with the launch of Lancashire's Red Rose Radio. After working on other stations including Liverpool's Radio City he became part of the launch teams on two North West regional stations including Jazz FM and Century Radio, later joining Smooth Radio as head of music from its launch to the present day.
Derek can usually be found searching for the latest jazz releases and has developed an enthusiastic love of folk music, becoming a regular at festivals, where he can be found supping the finest ales and taking in the traditional sounds of fiddle, mandolin and the story-telling songs of the current folk revival.
Derek lives with his partner Jill on the edge of the West Pennine Moors in Lancashire.
Derek presents on Smooth Radio throughout the night Monday - Friday.
