Soul music and Andy Peebles go hand in hand. His weekly Soul Train show was a favourite among BBC Radio 1 listeners for eight years and Smooth Radio revived the much-loved show when Andy joined the station.
Nearly four decades ago, Andy began his broadcasting career, presenting a Saturday morning show for BBC Radio Manchester. The 1970s saw him move onto Piccadilly Radio, joining BBC Radio 1 in 1978, where he spent 14 years presenting a variety of shows.
His name was thrust into the media spotlight in December 1980 when John Lennon was murdered in New York. He had conducted the last British media interview with Lennon at the Hit Factory recording studio, two days before Lennon's death. The Lennon interview was later published in print as The Lennon Tapes, now in print as The Last Lennon Tapes.
The 1990s saw him move north again to host the morning show on BBC Radio Lancashire followed by the Late Show on BBC North. A move to BBC Radio 2 in 1999 where he spent 3 years presenting his weekly Soul Show preceded his arrival at GMG Radio, joining Jazz FM in both London and Smooth Radio in the North West, presenting the evening show and Saturday Night Soul Train.
