Book: Never Go Back
Author: Lee Child
September's Smooth Radio Book of the Month is Lee Child's 'Never Go Back'.
After an epic and interrupted journey all the way from the snows of South Dakota, Jack Reacher has finally made it to Virginia. His destination: a sturdy stone building a short bus ride from Washington D.C., the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. It was the closest thing to a home he ever had.
Why? He wants to meet the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner. He liked her voice on the phone. But the officer sitting behind Reacher’s old desk isn't a woman. Why is Susan Turner not there?
What Reacher doesn’t expect is what comes next. He himself is in big trouble, accused of a sixteen-year-old homicide.
Will he be sorry he went back? Or - will someone else?
“Having read all the Jack Reacher books this is one of the best. It's another one you can't put down and leads you through a number of twists and turns that keep you wanting to turn the next page. Previous books have him on his way to Virginia to see Susan Turner, the CO of his old 110th MP Special Unit. He has arrived and things turn against him but Jack Reacher doesn't do what his adversaries plan and think he would and an eventful chase across to California ensues. Here with various agencies trying to find Susan and himself his investigation gradually reveals the truth. The ending is a little weak and putting myself in Jack Reacher's boots I would be disappointed that it was an easy way out. Apart from this it is yet another Lee Child book that you must read.”- Listener Colin Haworth in Wigan
