Everybody needs good neighbours...
Hope these neighbours in Carlos' village aren't too noisy
Neighbours can really be a pain in the proverbial backside. Whether it's
the loud music shaking your foundations at the most inappropriate time, the
selfish parking that makes your place resemble the local NCP or the kids that
transform the neighbourhood into Wembley Stadium or Centre Court at Wimbledon,
we've all had the unwelcome experience. Now, at the risk of tempting fate we
have the best neighbours ever! I've thought this for sometime but yesterday,
within a few hours, we had a reminder of how lucky we are.
You can pay a great sum for a property and live in an exclusive area but you have no control over those who reside nearby. We live down a long lane where just four homes are located. We are all relatively close to one another so although we reside deep in the countryside our neighbours could have a profound effect on us. Yesterday we bumped into Julie & Steve. They live in the barn next to ours. They have two lovely kids and are always generously offering parenting tips in addition to offerings from their chickens! Yesterday they offered us first refusal of a wonderful baby rucksack that makes country strolls great fun. I speak from our experience late yesterday afternoon. Our trek through the lanes near our home had Martha squealing from her high vantage point above my shoulders. On our way home, another neighbour, Martin, gave us a shout and wanted to have a chat with Martha. Just before we reached home we thought we'd pop in and say hello to the lovely elderly couple who live on the farm next to us. We had every intention of just exchanging a few pleasantries with Arnold & Joan but the offer of a cuppa couldn't be refused and then we shared a few tales of village life... and believe you me they can take quite some time. Village folk are quite colourful characters!!! So, when we returned home my wife and I both remarked on how lucky we are to have such lovely neighbours, whom we look upon as friends.
