The massive advances in technology over the past decade or so make it difficult sometimes to remember a time when we didn't have certain things - mobile phones, Sat Navs, Google, Wikipedia and online shopping. The first place many of us look when considering buying a new item - whether it's a dishwasher, a pair of jeans or a holiday - is on the internet. Even if we end up buying the products in 'real life', online shopping websites have become hugely important to compare options and prices, as well as finding out what other people think through the reviews.
The rise in online reviews means that manufacturers and companies supplying the things we buy need to be more aware than ever of the power of the consumer. This can only be a good thing for us as it means their standards must be maintained to keep good feedback on influential websites - and, of course, we're able to see quickly and easily what we can expect from certain products, hotels or services, and make informed decisions on which to consider and, importantly, which to avoid.
We think online reviews are good for us, the consumers, and the suppliers, whether they're a shop, hotel, travel company or plumber, as they keep standards high and the markets competitive. We'd like to know what you think - how much do you use online reviews?
