Make your own kits

In these austere times giving homemade gifts has become a bit of a trend. We're not complaining - who doesn't like a nice homemade cake or a unique bit of art? But if you're not particularly keen on getting your hands dirty you could hand the creative reins over to the person receiving the gift, by giving them a make your own kit. You can get kits for almost anything these days and the best thing is that they get something special to enjoy at the end of it! Here are a few ideas for kits to give to your creative friends and family.

Knitting. The old ones are always the best and knitting is making a serious comeback these days. You can get kits for pretty much anything, from teddy bears and cuddly toys to hats, scarves or even whole jumpers. It just depends how ambitious you think they are!

Home brewing. A true sign of harsh economic times is when people start brewing their own drinks but, recession aside, homemade ale or wine is becoming increasingly popular, with people relishing the chance to explore different flavours and techniques. If you've got a friend who always likes a tipple this could be the gift for them.

Cosmetics. From bath bombs to soaps and even creating your own perfume, make-your-own cosmetic kits are big business these days. And once they've done the hard work of making it they can relax and enjoy the pampering!

Art. If you want to help someone explore their creative side, why not get them a starter kit in something they've never tried before - like water colours, pottery or wood carving. You may be helping them discover a new passion in life, or even encouraging the next Van Gough!
