Some people can't imagine Valentine's Day without chocolate, flowers and dinner at a swanky eatery. Some people can't imagine anything worse and prefer to stay at home and have a romantic meal in quieter surroundings. Here we give the arguments for both:
Eating Out
Pros:
If your partner is a bit of a foodie and loves trying new cuisines, dining out could be the winning option
Eating out means you can get exactly what you want; if you were at home, you'd both have the same thing but this way you'll have a choice
You can use it as an opportunity to get a babysitter and have a bit of time away from the daily routine
You can make a real night of it - go for cocktails after a meal, or take a trip to the cinema or theatre if that's more your thing
Eating out means no mess in the kitchen for the night!
Cons:
Restaurants are often crowded on special occasions and you don't always get the reservation time you want
More expensive than eating at home
You will probably have to wait for thing, whether it be transport or service at the restaurant.
Staying at home
Pros:
Home-cooked meals can often be more romantic; you and your partner can cook together or you can treat your loved one to their favourite meal
You will get exactly what you want - you'll have a better idea of how your partner likes their steak
Everything is to your timescale - you waiting for taxis or the bill
Cons:
Cooking at home can be stressful if you're not used to doing it
You eat in most nights a week - it's good to have a change
Eating at home might be considered too casual for a special occasion
You'll have to wash up!
There's a danger you'll spend more time cooking, rather than with your partner.
Our advice? Do whatever makes the two of you most relaxed. There's no right or wrong. And for those who can't make up their minds, takeaway is always an option. Just remember to use the fancy plates.
